This session will provide an overview of Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) nursing and its role within the multidisciplinary team (MDT). Participants will gain an understanding of how SANE nurses support survivors through specialized medical care, forensic evidence collection, and expert documentation. The presentation will highlight the exam process, clarify how SANE services strengthen both patient-centered care and legal outcomes, and emphasize the importance of collaboration between SANE nurses, law enforcement, advocacy, and prosecution to ensure a coordinated response to sexual assault.

Jonnica Norick, RN, FNE

Born and raised in Bismarck, ND, Jonnica Norick, RN, first earned her bachelor’s degree in Music Therapy from Maryville University before later pursuing her nursing degree from Bismarck State. She is a trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) with specialized expertise in caring for survivors of sexual assault, child abuse, and interpersonal violence. Jonnica has completed advanced training in forensic nursing, pediatric and adult SANE practice, and is qualified as an expert court witness. She is passionate about bridging the gap between healthcare, law enforcement, advocacy, and the justice system to ensure survivors receive compassionate, trauma-informed care while preserving the integrity of forensic evidence. With years of experience working on multidisciplinary teams, she brings a collaborative approach that strengthens both patient outcomes and case success. Outside of her professional work, Jonnica is married and the proud mom of three children
