April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

By: the Dakota Children’s Advocacy Center

At the Dakota Children’s Advocacy Center, every April reminds us that preventing child abuse starts with awareness and action. Throughout the month of April, we’re featuring articles and posts on our social media pages focused on prevention tips, signs of abuse, what to do if you suspect abuse, and how DCAC helps children and families heal.

In North Dakota, thousands of reports of child abuse and neglect are made each year—and more than 90% of abusers are known to the child. These numbers are hard to hear, but it’s why our work matters. In 2024, DCAC served over 1,000 children and family members through forensic interviews, therapy, advocacy, and medical evaluations.

You can be part of the solution. Learn the signs, speak up, and advocate for services that protect and care for children.

We also invite families to our free Family Make and Take Day on Saturday, April 26th, at both the Bismarck and Mandan Public Libraries. (Check out the details here!) Kids can participate in crafts and activities focused on resilience, safety, and emotional well-being.

Together, we can create a safer world for kids—one conversation, one action, one family at a time. Let’s make this April count.
